“We all stood in amazement at the timing; the energy;
 and the quality of the text-based mime.”

Our Performance Style
Drawings from the Imagination

 The way you described the sea with such detail just made me think I was there.
10 year old, Culford Prep School, Britain

An old cane basket sits centre stage.  It is overflowing with colourful costumes.  A red curtain stands tall behind the basket, and there is nothing, nothing else on stage.

Our performance style helps each person in the audience to create their own imagined castle, forest or field of frolicking lambs and by the act of imagining the scene, that person inwardly places him/herself in that scene.

Our productions do not use props or stage sets and our sound effects are made by voice or musical instruments.  It is only by costumes, the craft of acting and the imagination of the audience that the actors bring alive these classic stories of far away places and earlier times.

To tell the story, the actors speak the narrative and, in doing so, shape the space on stage into scenes.  To play the characters, the actors transform themselves into animals, people and magical beings.

See our gallery of Drawings from the Imagination drawn by children across the world who saw magic happen.

The Classic Fairytale Company performance style has been inspired by a special style called Story Theatre in which the actors tell the story and play the character at the same time.  Story Theatre was first created by Paul Sills in America in 1968.
